Founder, Palliative Poet
Kara Joseph is a palliative and grief specialist, writer, and therapist. She has been working as a clinical social worker, primarily in the field of hospice and palliative social work for over 23 years. Most recently, she is the founder of Palliative Poet, where she has brought together her passion for palliative care along with her love of poetry as a healing modality. Kara is dedicated to serving those who are coping with serious illness and loss as they navigate the health care system and open to the hard conversations that are most meaningful in life. She fosters creative care spaces where the power of poetry, language, and deep listening supports individuals and family caregivers to find connection, hope, and holistic wellbeing.
Kara is a member of Social Work Hospice and Palliative Care Network, Association of Oncology Social Work, Spiritual Care Association, The Institute for Poetic Medicine, and the Center to Advance Palliative Care. She is a strong advocate for health and grief literacy, racial and social equality and equity, and access to the creative arts.
