Robert Parkinson, MSc
First Responder Mental Health
Robert brings over 30 years of experience with BC Emergency Health Services, serving as a paramedic, supervisor, and union leader. He holds a Master of Science in Psychology and the Neuroscience of Mental Health, a Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation and Disability Management, and a Certificate in Labour Relations, and has deep experience in first responder mental health and psychological safety.
A founding member of the BC First Responders Mental Health Committee, Robert helped launch the BC First Responders Mental Health Summit and contributed to Canadian Standards Association committees on disability management and fatigue risk management. His leadership has been recognized with the Paramedic Association of Canada’s Award of Excellence for Leadership (2020), the Canadian Minister of Defence’s Challenge Coin for Honour Ranch (2019), and the Dr. Joseph H. Cohen Award for first responder mental health advocacy (2018).
Today, Robert continues to advance evidence-based approaches to psychological health and safety for first responders across Canada, integrating neuroscience with practical strategies for emergency services.
